At least as far as I’m concerned, Benecio Del Toro’s performance in the title role (and the cinematography by “Peter Andrews”) are the only notable things about Steven Soderbergh’s “Che,” which is pulling into the Ziegfeld for a one-week Oscar qualification run today. Kyle Smith gives it 1.5 stars and quips: “It’s a remake of Woody Allen’s “Bananas,” right? Minus punch lines — or perhaps with them. ‘We are in a difficult situation,’ Che observes, at a point when his army is surrounded and forced to eat his horses.” Speaking of dead horses, tickets are still available for all 14 performances at the 3,100-seat Ziegfeld, where the 4 1/2 hour epic (with a 30-minute intermission) is playing two performances a day (at 1 and 7) through next Thursday. Soderbergh is introducing tonight’s 7 p.m. show. Surely his Cuban friends will dip into their contingency fund to make sure he’s got a sold-out house.
