D-Day is also quite funny in a scene where a young preacher (Paul Dano of “Little Miss Sunshine,” who will likely get nominated in support for a dual role) blackmails him into confessing his sins. While this hugely ambitious project invites comparisons with “Citizen Kane” and “Giant” and is dazzling in many ways, “There Will Be Blood” isn’t quite the shoo-in for a Best Picture nomination it looked like from early reviews, though it will probably be embraced by many critics. For starters, it’s so dark it makes the grim “No Country For Old Men” look positively audience-friendly. “There Will Be Blood” opens on Dec. 26.
