Defying predictions they would go for “No Country for Old Men,” the Los Angeles Film Critics Association gave its top prize to “There Will Be Blood,” as well as honoring it for Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson) and Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) while awarding Best Actress to Marion Cotillard of “La Vie En Rose.” Meanwhile, the D.C. critics fell for “No Country” and gave director laurels to Joel and Ethan Coen. Best Actor went to George Clooney (“Michael Clayton”) and Best Actress is Julie Christie (“Away From Her”). The New York Film Critics Circle, which votes tomorrow, rarely goes along with its L.A. counterparts as a matter of principle, so “No Country For Old Men” is a real possibility.
