The last time Diane Lane worked with Richard Gere, she was Oscar nominated for “Unfaithful” (2008). Warner Bros. has just moved their reunion movie, “Nights in Rodanthe,” up a week to Sept. 23, which may signal the studio has snagged or is angling for a berth at the Toronto International Film Festival, a major Oscar launch pad. Based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (“The Notebook”), it stars Lane as an unhappily married woman who seeks solace on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. What she finds is an impending storm and a handsome guy (Gere) reaching out to his estranged son (James Franco). “Nights in Rodanthe” is the feature directing debut of George C. Wolfe, the noted theater director (and former head of NYC’s Public Theater), who has done some acclaimed work in TV.
