The Screen Actors Guild Awards, which have long been held on Sunday evening, will take place tomorrow, the same day that polls close for Oscar nominations. Saturday’s winners should give us a better idea of whether Sandra Bullock will actually beat Meryl Streep in the academy’s Best Actress race, and who’s ahead in the Jeff Bridges-George Clooney race for Best Actor. “Avatar” is not nominated in any of the categories, including SAG’s rough equivalent of Oscar’s Best Picture, the ensemble award. “Avatar” is nominated in the expanded field of 10 at the Producers Guild of American Awards, which are moving from the traditional Saturday night to Sunday for the first time.
