Will “The Irishman” put out a hit on the competition? Can “Once Upon a Time in . . . Hollywood” have a fairy tale ending? Hollywood’s most prestigious awards competition launched Monday with the announcement of the 2020 Oscar nominations.
“I’m honored that our work on ‘The Irishman’ has been honored by the Academy with these nominations,” director Martin Scorsese said in a statement. “We put all of ourselves into this picture, a true labor of love, and to be recognized in this way means a great deal to all of us.”
Voting officially begins Jan. 30 and continues through 5 p.m. Feb. 4.
The 92nd annual Academy Awards ceremony — broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. — airs at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, on ABC. Until then, keep up with The Post’s weekly “Gold Digger” updates on the march to Oscar glory, starting with Best Picture.
