Paramount is denying a report it’s going to forego press screenings for “G.I. Joe” before its opening next Friday — invariably a sign that a movie is terrible. A rep for the studio told me New York Magazine didn’t check before printing — in its snarky “Approval Matrix” feature in the current issue — that “lovers of hilarious film takedowns mourn as ‘G.I. Joe’ will not screen for critics.” But the rep says the studio hasn’t yet confirmed critics screenings at this late date. Could this be a re-run of
“Speed Racer” “Ghost Rider”? Sony screened the Nicolas Cage bomb the night before opening, apparently just so Sony could claim they weren’t hiding it from critics. Advance ‘net buzz on “G.I. Joe,” based on the Hasbro toys, is lethal.
