Just in case you had any doubts that time and the public’s tastehas passed by Quentin Tarantino, consider: (1) “Death Proof,” his half of the hugely hyped “Grindhouse,” which was severed from “Planet Terror” and expanded for its European and U.S. DVD releases, is dead on arrival in UK theaters, finishing sixth in its opening weekend. (2) On the other side of pond, “Death Proof” is No. 2 in DVD sales during its first week, beaten by the schmaltzy Matthew McConaughey sports flick “We Are Marshall,” which passed through theaters virtually unnoticed last December. In rentals, “Death Proof” ranks No. 6. (3) QT is telling interviewers he wants to make an homage to European soft-core porn of the ’70s, and faciliate a movie comeback for Ringo Starr. Maybe Ringo can co-star with Sylvia Kristel.
