First it was a line on “Sex and the City,” then it was a dubious self-help bestseller, and now, inevitably, it’s a romantic comedy: Variety reports that Ken Kwapis has just signed on to direct the film adaptation of “He’s Just Not That Into You.” (Never mind that the book didn’t contain a plot so much as a series of vaguely condescending advice columns — that’s what the screenwriters are for!) Pros: Kwapis has directed some quality stuff, albeit on the small screen. He helmed two eps of the short-lived cult hit “Freaks and Geeks,” and somehow managed to make relationship melodrama work perfectly on “The Office.” (As Lou points out, he also directed “one of the more tolerable chick flicks,” 2005’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”) Potential cons: film is to be produced by rom-com queen Drew Barrymore, whose producing instincts have veered wildly between the awesomely quirky (“Donnie Darko”), the passable (“Fever Pitch”) and the downright embarrassing (“Duplex”).
