Robert Sklar, 1936-2011
There’s sad news today: Robert Sklar, the esteemed film historian-professor, died over the weekend in a cycling accident in Spain. He was the author many books, including the 592-page “A World History of Film,” which has a prime spot in my personal library, and taught at NYU for many, many years. I used to run into him at screenings and on the streets of the West Village, and I was always flattered that he read my musings. You’ll find a loving tribute to Sklar, by former student Eric Kohn, at indiewire.com.
