George Romero’s “Diary of the Dead” will premiere as part of the “Midnight Madness” section at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. Romero has said this flick — his first indie production in more than two decades — is not a sequel to his four previous “Dead” films but something of a re-invention of the first one, the groundbreaking “The Night of the Living Dead.” In the new flick, shot last summer in Canada, the protagonists are not the folks in the farmhouse but a group of students making a horror movie who are forced to deal with the zombies in the woods.
