Slumdogs No More
Danny Boyle and one of the producers of “Slumdog Millionaire” flew to Mumbai this week. Their mission: to buy new apartments for the young stars of last year’s Oscar-winning hit. A trust set up by the filmmakers
$42,000 on a new flat for Azharuddin Ismail, who played young Salim. They also hope to buy something new for Rubina Ali, who played young Latika. Both children’s homes were recently torn down.
It’s an incredibly generous gesture, but it raises the question about how much responsibility filmmakers have to those who appear in their movies. Does “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters have a responsibility to fix Lindsay Lohan‘s ailing career? Should John Landis write a check to the supposedly bankrupt Michael Jackson? Should the producer of “3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain” lend Hulk Hogan a few grand?
How far do you think the responsibility extends?
