Talks between the studios and the Writers Guild of America broke off several hours before last night’s midnight deadline and a vote to walk out could come as early as tonight. The studios and indie producers have been stockpiling scripts for months, and are preparing to rush dozens of them into production so they can be completed by the end of June, when the SAG and DGA pacts expire. A few of these movies listed by Variety even sound like they’d be worth paying $11 to see. Most of those rushed through in anticipation of strikes that didn’t happen in 2001 were definitely not.
