Sundance: ‘Big Fan’
One of the more eccentric entries in the dramatic competition is “Big Fan,” the directorial debut of Robert Siegel, whose script for “The Wrestler” didn’t get Oscar nominated today. Stand-up comic Oswalt Patton, perhaps best known for providing the voice of Remy in “Ratatouille,” plays a 35-year-old parking lot attendant who lives with his mother on Staten Island and spends all his time obsessing about the New York Giants. An encounter with his idol, the team’s star player, goes horribly awry and lands Patton in the hospital — and in the middle of a situation that could hurt his beloved team. Like “The Wrestler,” this darkly funny film is not for the faint of heart.
