I saw 4 1/2 movies on Sunday, beginning at 9:15 a.m. by finally catching up with Jonathan Levine’s much-touted “The Wackness,” which got a huge audience response even at that hour. It’s a coming of age tale set in 1994 Manhattan, where a teenage pot dealer (Josh Peck) who supports his family trades his wares for therapy from a loopy psychiatrist played by Ben Kingsley, who gives his best performance since “Sexybeast.” He writes graffiti in Times Square, tries to kill himself and even gets to kiss Mary-Kate Olsen in a cringe-inducing scene. Less interesting is the merely OK Peck’s last-summer-before-college romance with Kingsley’s flighty stepdaughter (a fine Olivia Thirlby of “Juno.” There are lots of funny lines and situations, but I’m not sure it’s the commercial slam dunk some critics seem to think it is.
