– Celebrities are arriving very slowly for the Sundance Film Festival in this snow-shrouded town.

Which may explain why Colin Farrell was hanging out at the Village at the Lift with Mary-Kate Olsen at a party for “In Bruges,’’ a mediocre comedy starring him as a hit man in Belgium that opened the festival Thursday night. Mary-Kate showed up for the premiere of the film at the Eccles Center and was later seen in animated conversation – and an awkward embrace for the cameras — with the Irish actor at the party. The actress had her own film premiering yesterday afternoon. In “The Wackness,’’ set in 1994 Manhattan, she is seen making out with a stoned psychiatrist played by Ben Kingsley. The weather may or may not explain why the ever-quotable Quentin Tarantino, the head of this year’s dramatic completion jury, missed his plane into Park City.

That left the festival’s first-ever press conference for jurors without its star attraction. “It’s good to be supporting alternative sources of fuel and ideas for a change,’’ said another juror, the youthful-looking Marcia Gay Harden. “We spend too much time supporting a commercial pipeline, even if it pays for all of our homes.’’ Sandra Oh, who is also on the jury, said there was too much emphasis on commercial success for independent movies.

“Do we really need to be supplying the next Mission: Impossible 6?’ ’ she asked.
