They laughed at the jokes, so I guess the very responsive audience liked my introduction to “Design for Living” at the TCM Classic Film Festival last night at the Chinese multiplex. I was a bit nervous beforehand about making a live appeaarance in Hollywood, but it helped that my talent escort was Lee Tsantis, the Turner rights researcher who I interviewed recently. We had dinner afterwards and went to see Erich Von Stroheim’s “The Merry Widow.” It was the first movie I’ve ever seen at the gorgeous historic Egyptian theater. The legendary Kevin Brownlow introduced this kinky treat and Maud Neliseen conducted a 10-piece orchestra performing her new score for the film in this very special event.
