The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was apparently not pleased to find itself endorsing the Catholic-bashing “The Golden Compass” in advertising blurbs this weekend. The positive review has been excommunicated from the USCCB’s website and church conservatives are again calling for the ouster of the lay director of the conference’s film office, Harry Forbes, who co-authored the review and previously drew fire for endorsing “Brokeback Mountain.” The Catholic News Service reported with a straight face: “No reason was given by the USCCB for the withdraw of the review.” Have we got a job for Bill Donohue!
