Over the past year or so, Jake Gyllenhaal has looked more and more like a shell of his former self, having shed roughly 20 pounds for a mysterious role.

“I knew that [my character] was literally and figuratively hungry,” he told Us Weekly last year.

And now his labor of love — and gaunt frame — can finally be seen with the teaser trailer for the movie “Nightcrawler.”

In the film, Gyllenhaal plays a crime journalist in the seedy underbelly of LA. The thriller sees him chasing down news footage in the night as he ultimately becomes part of the story himself.

“Nightcrawler” lurks into theaters Oct. 17.
