Summit Entertainment has purchased the U.S. rights to Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” for an undisclosed sum. This is one of the best films about the Iraq conflict, an edgy action thriller with a mesmerizing performance by Jeremy Renner as a bomb-removal expert who gets off on his job. There are three of the most edge-of-your-seat sequences I’ve ever seen in a movie here, and Anthony Mackie is very good as a subordinate trying to hold back his boss Rennner. It’s a tad too long, but still one of the best films I saw this year at the Toronto Film Festival. I flew out this morning and got back to the Big Apple a while ago.
