Toronto: ‘Janie Jones’
Little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin, turns Miss Fix-It as she helps the father she’s just met put his life back together in David M. Rosenthal’s “Janie Jones.”
Her drug-addicted mom (Elisabeth Shue) dumps the hitherto-unknown progeny on her unsuspecting dad, a hard-drinking rocker (Alessandra Nivola) whose longtime band is falling apart on their latest road trip.
To make a long story short, they gradually team up as a father and daughter act, though the 13-year-old has to bail dad out of jail at one point.
“Janie Jones,” which has a dozen original songs, has nice performances by the leads and provides a vivid look at its seedy milieu. It’s seeking U.S. distribution.
