If you build it, he will come. And then, nearly 30 years later, they’ll come and tear it up.

The actual baseball diamond in Iowa from the 1989 flick “Field of Dreams” was vandalized Monday night by an apparent motorist, leaving 4-inch gashes in the outfield and damaging the sprinkler system, according to the (Dubuque) Telegraph Herald.

There are thousands of dollars worth of damage, the newspaper said, and a GoFundMe page has since been set up to help foot the bill.

“Someone who is disturbed had some agenda to damage the field,” said Denise Stillman, the field’s owner. “It’s upsetting.”

The field is a popular tourist attraction and will remain open throughout this summer despite having to undergo repairs, Stillman said.

There are no security cameras at the site, so field officials have been unable to identify the guilty vehicle.

“We cannot fathom why a soul on this planet would desecrate this holy ground,” operators of the movie site posted on Facebook. “We pray for whomever did this to our special place that they find peace in their hearts.”
