Exciting news: Palisades Tartan  has just released an eight-disc box set (DVD and Blu-ray) of respected South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s vengeance trilogy: “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), “Oldboy” (2003) and “Lady Vengeance” (2005). The movies aren’t for everybody — you need a high tolerance for violence — but that hasn’t stopped them from becoming cult favorities and making Park an international star. “Oldboy,” the best of the three, made headlines in 2007 when it was discovered that it had influenced a Korean student who went on a shooting spee at his Virginia college, killing 32 and wounding 25 before taking his own life. The box-set includes extras galore plus, including audio commentary by the director.
