I’m not exactly skinny myself, but I’m more offended by a lazy column by Bill Wyman at Hitsville. Seemingly without doing any serious research, Wyman ridiculously claims that Tony Scott and Jeffrey Wells were the only critics not to “ignore” the film would likely give offense to Disney’s target audience and to Wall-Mart, the clear model for the evil corporation in the movie, Buy N Large (if you click you’ll find an satirical website, including the slogan, “the family that pays together, stays together” under the heading “family values”). My review in The Post was one of many (in print and on the web). to make this connection. Among these critics was James Rocchi at Cinematical, who takes Wells and Wyman to task for this absurd assertion in the comments section of Wells’ Hollywood Elsewhere.
