Welcome back, Katie
It looks like Katie Holmes is finally getting a little quality screen time. Putting aside her supporting performance in the recent, Kyle Smith-panned “The Extra Man,” the poor woman hasn’t gotten work since 2008’s “Mad Money” (and, as a courtesy, we probably shouldn’t count that one either). But let’s remember that Holmes, pre-Tom Cruise and Scientology immersion, was a promising young actress, and her two new movies look like they might actually allow her to deliver on it in two very different roles: “The Romantics” seems a sort of “Big Chill” meets “Rachel Getting Married,” while the Guillermo del Toro-produced and written “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” reminds us of previous del Toro productions “The Orphanage” (which, incidentally, it looks like he’s developing an English version of) and “Pan’s Labyrinth” – right down to the hair standing up on our arms while watching the trailer. Don’t take Suri to this one…
