What’s new?
The 2010 edition of New Directors/New Films is under way at MoMA and Lincoln Center. Since the first edition, in 1972, the festival has “discovered” directors such as Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee, Wong Kar-wai, John Sayles and Pedro Almodovar. Who will be the big discovery this year? Only time will tell. Twenty-seven features and seven shorts from 19 nations are on the schedule. They range from Yorgos Lanthimos’ Greek opus “Dogtooth,” which the festival schedule calls “the most perverse film of the year,” to “3 Backyards,” Eric Mendelsohn’s look at suburban Long Island life, featuring Edie Falco and Embeth Davidtz. Festival details are available at filmlinc.com, moma.org and my Cine File column in Sunday’s Post.
