Why the latest Star Wars droid is one of the best

Many movies have robot characters, but they haven’t all built them with as much personality and charm as those of the “Star Wars” universe. The newest entry in the series set in a galaxy far, far away — “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” in theaters Friday — continues that tradition. Han Solo’s (Alden Ehrenreich) origin tale is livened up with the addition of a hilarious new droid, L3-37, voiced by “Fleabag” actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

In honor of her debut, here’s a ranking, from least to most, of how much we’d want to go on a space mission with each of the franchise’s key droids.

**C-3PO** Sure, in his many appearances dating back to the original 1977 flick, the gold-plated droid has offered plenty of help (such as translations) to battle the Empire. **BB-8** Introduced in 2015's "The Force Awakens," the adorable dome-head-on-a-ball isn't just cuter than an Ewok, it also knows how to fight like a badass alongside the humans. Bonus points for being able to give a thumbs up with a lighter!Lucasfilm Ltd./Everett Collection

**L3-37** As a fierce advocate for equal rights for droids, L3 delivers the majority of the funniest quips in "Solo." But this lady's more than just wit - she built herself from spare parts and works as Lando Calrissian's (Donald Glover) copilot. Walt Disney Co./Everett Collection

**K-2SO** A reprogrammed Imperial droid, K-2SO made his one and only showing in 2016's stand-alone film, "Rogue One." He made the most of his screen time though, with a memorably sarcastic sense of humor and a major sacrifice. Walt Disney Co./Everett Collection
