The Hollywood Reporter talks up Disney’s effort to market their horse saga “Secretariat” to the Christian audience that loved “The Blind Side.” Says THR: “At a screening for a group called Catholic Media Review that included remarks from [director Randall] Wallace, the invitation boasted, “Not only is Randall one of the most successful directors of all time, he is also a devout Christian.” A film reviewer there ‘highly recommended’ the film to readers and noted ‘a definite subtext of faith which is as rare these days as it is welcome.'” Wallace wrote “Braveheart,” so the headlines write themselves. “Bravehorse”!
The equine meets the sublime? Onward, Christian horses? Triple Crown meets Holy Trinity? There is a definite chance Christians are going to stampede to “Secretariat” when it comes out on Oct. 8. There is a camel-passing-through-the-eye-of-a-needle problem, though: Critics hate anything that carries a whiff of Sunday school, so any Christian message in an Oscar hopeful generally has to be softened enough not to annoy them.
