A forthcoming graphic novel is taking an in-depth, illustrated look at the birth of the Grateful Dead.

“Grateful Dead Origins,” publishing in April 2020, will explore the early days of the American rock supergroup and their evolution from bar band the Warlocks to the forefathers of jam band culture, according to publisher Z2 Comics.

“I’m incredibly proud to announce that I’m writing #GratefulDeadOrigins, the first biographical dramatization of the @gratefuldead’s early years,” author Chris Miskiewicz posted on his Instagram. The book will be illustrated by Noah Van Sciver.

This first limited-edition, individually numbered release of the book costs $99.99 and comes with a 12″ LP of previously unreleased Dead music as well as three prints. It’s available for pre-order through the Z2 Comics site.
