Warning: Explicit language

Kendrick Lamar’s confidence has rarely been in doubt, but on the LA rapper’s latest track, he spells it out — loud and proud — for all the world to hear.

His song, “i,” dropped on Tuesday, and is the first new music Lamar has released since the widely acclaimed 2012 album “good kid, m.A.A.d city.” It’s a dazzling amalgam of Isley Brothers samples, funk beats, bass solos and the 27-year-old’s slick, self-empowered rhymes.

A follow-up to “good kid, m.A.A.d city” is currently in the works. It may not arrive until next year — but it sounds like it’ll be worth the wait.
