When it comes to musical guilty pleasures, it seems most of us are stuck in a different decade.
According to a new study by Spotify, many music lovers get their kicks from one-hit wonders of the ’80’s and ’90’s, with Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5” winning the title of the world’s most popular guilty pleasure tune.
Turns out, unearthing the unusual musical tastes of Spotify users is a fairly simple task. The music-streaming Web site analyzed more than 120,000 playlists simply titled “Guilty Pleasures” to discover which 10 tracks appear most frequently.
Spotify also divided the results into men’s and women’s guiltiest pleasures, and pop songs reigned supreme. One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” received top billing for women, while Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” took home top honors from men.
