If MoMA can cash in on the genius of Tim Burton, why can’t Swing Goth? As an early precursor to the theatrical debut of Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” the dancing Goths are hosting “Wonderland: A Tim Burton Ball” at Don Hill’s on Feb. 26.

Besides lessons on how to dance, “two of New York’s top dark DJs” – whatever that means – are spinning and steampunk/pirate band Abney Park are performing a live set. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear costumes inspired by the Burton œuvre.

If you’re not familiar with Abney Park, here’s a clip of them at a show out in LA. I could do without the dancing girl, but other than that, there’s something quite appealing about the band. Could be the electric violin, could be the melody, could be the band’s look, could just be the fact that they don’t sound like every other band out there right now.

And, if you’re looking for another steampunk-stylized video, check out “Help Me” from Alkaline Trio’s old album. (Their new one, “This Addiction,” is in stores on Feb. 23 – and they’re playing Nokia Theater on March 12.)
