Here’s a rock star you might not have expected to ever see.

Gisele Marie, a 42-year-old Muslim woman, has been thrashing stereotypes as a burqa-clad, heavy-metal guitarist.

Marie, who is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has been fronting her brother’s band Spectrus since 2012.

“People do not expect to see a Muslim woman who uses a burqa, practices the religion properly and is a professional guitarist who plays in a heavy metal band,” Marie told Reuters. “So many people are shocked by it.”

Marie, whose grandparents were German Catholics, converted to Islam after her father passed away in 2009.
