Last September, I did a touching (if I do say so myself) column about Asmar Johnson, a 10-year-old bass-playing prodigy who was being encouraged mightily by a father who shares the same name.
Dad was a former gang member who had spent years in prison and didn’t want his son to follow his questionable career path.
Here’s an update:
The now 11-year-old will be on Steve Harvey’s NBC “Little Big Shots” show April 22. I happened upon Lil’ Asmar and his father last summer on the Asbury Park boardwalk.
NBC may be a step down, but at least the kid’s still playing.
