President Obama’s jobs speech tonight is pushing the NFL’s popular pregame show off NBC and on to cable.

The network chose to simulcast the annual “NFL Kickoff” pregame program on its cable networks Syfy, USA, Versus and G4.

The New Orleans-Green Bay pregame show — featuring performances by Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5 — is being expanded to 90 minutes and is now scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., the same time as the president’s speech. (Originally, it was a one-hour show airing at 7:30 p.m.)

When the speech ends, the pregame coverage will flip over to NBC, which will then air the game itself. (The cable channels will resume their regularly scheduled programming once the show moves to NBC.)

Obama’s speech is not expected to interfere with kickoff, which is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

The 2011 NFL season opener between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers — respectively, the 2010 and 2011 Super Bowl champs — takes place at Wisconsin’s Lambeau Field.
