The story sweeping this year’s Little League World series has TV scrambling to get it on the air.

Turns out this year’s team representing the Mid-Atlantic states is from Clinton County, Pa. — just a half -hour drive from the longtime home of the famous kids’ baseball series, South Williamsport, Pa.

The fact that fans are less than 30 miles away from the team’s playoff games has created huge crowds at the little stadium.

Pennsylvania’s series debut last Friday night drew a World Series record 41,848 fans.

And TV has taken notice.

Tonight’s game involving Clinton County, Pa., was pushed yesterday from the afternoon into prime time by ESPN because such a big crowd was expected.

Pennsylvania’s opponent will be either Montana or Louisiana.

The game originally scheduled for 8 p.m., featuring Georgia and either California or Kentucky, was moved to 4 p.m.

No one in Williamsport could recall crowds this size so early in the 11-day tournament. The final game is set for Saturday.
