The debut of Piers Morgan’s new talk show on CNN attracted 2.1 million viewers, Broadcasting & Cable reported Tuesday.

Monday’s night premiere of “Piers Morgan Tonight,” that featured the British host interviewing talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, delivered a 219 percent increase in viewers compared to CNN’s fourth quarter average (657,000).

Morgan, 45, took over the 9pm time slot previously filled by Larry King, 77, who ended his 25-year run as host of “Larry King Live” in December.

However, despite its impressive debut, the top spot in Monday night’s ratings went to Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, who had 2.4 million viewers tune in to watch him interview former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

“The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC had 1.1 million total viewers.
