It’s Complicated

2009

Director Nancy Meyers took a real chance and made a romantic comedy about middle-aged people who have affairs and are funny to boot. Meryl Streep plays a divorced woman who meets up with her ex-husband (Alec Baldwin) at a bar before their son’s graduation. She’s there alone and his new, young wife is back in California. Oh, boy! With Steve Martin.

On a preview tour of a fantastic new island theme park created by a promoter (Richard Attenborough), several scientists (Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum), as well as the promoter’s grandchildren, get trapped when the park’s dinosaurs decide they ain’t gonna take crap from nobody. From the Michael Crichton novel, this is Steven Spielberg at his story-telling best.

Ghost 1990

Wednesday, 9:30 p.m., Oxygen

Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore were never more beautiful — or sexy — than in this tale about a couple whose love survives death. After the man is murdered, his spirit realizes that he needs to warn his wife that she is in grave danger. The only way he gets through, however, is literally through a phony medium (Whoopi Goldberg).

Prizzi’s Honor 1985

Thursday, 8 p.m., Reelz

It’s a terrible thing when professional assassins who are hired to kill one another fall in love by mistake. It’s also pretty darned funny. Charley (Jack Nicholson) is a hit man for the Prizzi crime family, but unbenownst to him, they’ve hired Irene (Kathleen Turner), a gorgeous professional hit woman, too. Their jobs become impossible when they are given offers they can’t refuse. Anjelica Huston won Best Supporting Actress.
