English comedian Russell Brand has been getting driving lessons around LA and studying to get a US driver’s license as he embraces the home base of his new bride, Katy Perry, People reported Wednesday.

“Russell in the past has been chauffeured around Los Angeles by Katy, he now wants to be an independent husband by getting his driver’s license,” a source told the celebrity magazine.

“He has been taking daily driving lessons and is very focused on getting his license as quickly as possible. He seems very excited about driving,” the source added.

Brand, 35, wants to prove he is a law-abiding citizen after his embarrassing skirmish with a photographer at the LAX airport — where he was arrested September 16 on suspected battery charges for allegedly attacking a paparazzo.

Brand claimed the photographer was trying to put a camera up the dress of his then-fiancee Perry, 26.

The actor, who married Perry on October 23 in India, was released from custody on September 17 after posting $20,000 bail.

On November 18, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office announced they would not pursue the matter further and Brand was not charged for the incident.
