Savannah Guthrie was named co-anchor of “Today” Friday, replacing Ann Curry at the anchor desk with Matt Lauer.
Guthrie, a lawyer, joined the NBC morning show as co-host of the third hour in June 2011 and also serves as the show’s chief legal analyst.
She will officially debut as co-host July 9, although she appeared in that role with Lauer on Friday, a day after Curry left.
Prior to joining “Today” in June 2011, Guthrie, 40, served as NBC News White House Correspondent from December 2008 to June 2011.
Curry’s new multi-year contract with NBC will see her leading a unit covering major news stories around the world, as well as filling in as an anchor on “Nightly News” when required, USA Today reported.
