‘DANCING With the Stars” romantics Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth have broken up.

On matching Twitter posts.

“Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend . . . ,” Hough tweeted over the weekend.

Elizabeth finished the Twitter message by posting a few moments later: “However, we love and care about each other very much and will remain friends and in each others lives.”

Hough and Elizabeth, the Hollywood actress who first made a splash in “American Pie,” were paired last season on “DWTS,” but then decided to keep tangoing off the dance floor — as is the case with a number of partners from the show in recent years.

They tried to keep the affair quiet for a while but were first spotted out together in March and didn’t try to hide it for long.

The couple’s age difference — she will be 36 next month, he is 24 — didn’t seem to matter.

No word on what’s behind the break-up though the well-choreographed announcement that they’d split seems to indicate that it wasn’t bitter.
