Fawcett’s turned on to possible series

Jay Bernstein called yesterday to say that Farrah Fawcett has agreed to star in a network series he’s developing based on real-life cases from the Los Angeles Public Defender’s Office (and other cases nationwide). Bernstein was Fawcett’s very first personal manager.

“Farrah had expressed interest, if I got the rights, in doing one of the starring roles and I’ve offered her one of the leading roles in the show,” Bernstein says of the series, which he’ll shop around to the networks. “She wants to be involved.”

Bernstein, who produced “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer” with star Stacey Keach, has snagged exclusive rights to criminal cases from the L.A. Public Defender’s Office. Unlike Dick Wolf’s new NBC series, “Crime & Punishment” – featuring real-life lawyers, etc. – these legal cases will be scripted and dramatized with actors.

“There’s nothing like this on TV – this will be a drama show like ‘The Practice,’ ” Bernstein says. “We’re going to appeal to a younger audience and we’ll get into the families of the kids accused of these crimes, the majority of who are 18-24 years old. We’ll have a younger audience than the other shows.”

It’s got the whiff of celebrity . . .

I don’t know if she’s gotten over being cut-off midway through her Tony Award acceptance speech, but Elaine Stritch is one of the scheduled guests and presenters for tonight’s FiFi Awards, sponsored by The Fragrance Foundation.

Tommy Tune will host the evening, with appearances from Jamie-Lynn Sigler (“The Sopranos”), Max Weinberg (“Late Night with Conan O’Brien”), Mario Cantone (“Sex and the City”) and “Rosie O’Donnell Show”/”Caroline Rhea Show” bandleader John McDaniel.

The awards will be held 7 p.m. at Lincoln Center (Avery Fisher Hall). Tickets for the black-tie event are available by calling (212) 725-2755.

Speaking about Stritch and The Tonys, Dori Berinstein has reason to smile. Not only does she executive-produce Oxygen’s “Isaac Mizrahi Show,” but she also won a Tony for producing this year’s big winner, “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

“Boston Public” star Fyvush Finkel, meanwhile, will perform at the Broadway Mall Association’s Benefit and Gala at Symphony Space (95th and Broadway) next Monday at 8 p.m. Also on the bill: Ch. 5 theatre/movie critic Pia Lindstrom, Bill Boggs, singer/dancer Donna McKechnie and Celeste Holm.

This just in . . .

Maurice Tunick, who executive-produced “The Sally Jessy Raphael Show,” is the new VP of programming at WOR (710 AM).

Sheryl Crow performs this Friday at noon outside the CBS studios (59th and Fifth). The concert will air June 14 on “The Early Show.”

Q-104’s Zach Martin hosting a charity basketball game this Friday at Middletown North High School (in Middletown, N.J.) to raise money for SIDS awareness.

Spotted at Jilly’s (West 58th St.) last Saturday night: “Sopranos” co-star Steve Van Zandt with Nancy Sinatra, Willy Rizzo (Jilly’s son) and Phoebe Snow, among other celebs.
