STORM OVER AT CH. 9
HERE’S an unusual forecast:
For the first time since the 1960s, there won’t be a Field on New York TV forecasting the weather.
Storm Field, who has been on various stations for more than 25 years – and whose father, Frank, was on for even longer – was axed Wednesday night by WWOR/Ch. 9.
He was told after the station’s 10 o’clock news ended, according to newsroom sources.
A station spokeswoman said his contract had not been renewed. Field could not be reached for comment.
Audrey Puente – the daughter of legendary Latino musician Tito Puente – is taking over for Field at Ch. 9 starting Monday.
“I met Frank Field when I was a kid and had a tour of WNBC,” Puente says. “A friend of the family brought me to the station and I met Chuck [Scarbourgh] and Sue [Simmons] and it really got me fascinated in broadcasting and the weather [forecasting].”
Puente, who began in TV as a news desk assistant at Ch. 5 after college, was most recently at Ch. 2.
