Cable now has another ratings notch in its belt.
Tampa Bay’s Game 7 victory over the Red Sox Sunday averaged 13.4 million viewers on TBS–the most-watched baseball game in cable history.
The Rays’ pennant clincher beat the previous cable baseball record set in September ’98, when 10.6 million ESPN viewers saw Mark McGwire smack his 61st dinger of the season to tie Roger Maris.
Sunday’s ALCS game was also the second-most-watched cable telecast of the year, behind ESPN’s Sept. 15 “Monday Night Football” game (Eagles-Cowboys), which snared 18.6 million viewers.
