‘WHO Wants to Be a Millionaire” and Regis Philbin returned in a big way Sunday night.

The show, now dubbed “Super Millionaire” with a $10 million grand prize, notched 17.5 million viewers from 9 to 10 p.m. on ABC, according to Nielsen numbers.

“Super Millionaire” beat NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” by 3.4 million viewers in head-to-head competition and was the night’s most-watched show.

The new show’s second contestant, Robert Essig from Ashtabula, Ohio, walked off with $1 million last night.

It took three long months for “Millionaire” to see its first $1 million winner (John Carpenter) when the show debuted in August 1999.

The first contestant on “Super Millionaire,” Todd Kim, won $500,000.

“Super Millionaire” moves to 10 p.m. for the duration of its run (tonight, Thursday and Friday on Ch. 7).
