The Foos’ latest single, “The Pretender,” has been at the pinnacle of the Modern Rock chart for six weeks now, fending off an assault by Linkin Park and going on to best Kid Rock on the Mainstream Rock chart.

It’s a classic Foo anthem, starting out like a Scorpions power ballad but quickly shifting into some major butt-kicking overdrive. In between, there’s are loud-quiet-loud bits, hearkening back to Nirvana’s heyday.

The awesome tension produced by the song is perfectly expressed in the video, which waits for 3½ minutes before anything interesting happens. When it does, all hell breaks loose – just like every great Foo Fighters song.
