Fans don’t have to worry for too long about Whoopi Goldberg’s sudden break from “The View.”
The 66-year-old’s co-host Joy Behar dropped the bombshell news about her hiatus Monday, saying that the EGOT winner would be absent from the show for a brief time.
It was announced Wednesday that Goldberg will be on hiatus from the long-running talk show until May 2. “ICYMI: Our EGOT winner is away doing EGOT things! See you soon, @WhoopiGoldberg,” the show tweeted, adding that she will be back to host Hot Topics then.
The “Ghost” actress stepped back from the show because she is filming the upcoming Amazon series “Anansi Boys” in Scotland.

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing,” Behar said. “So, she’s gone for a while.”
The “Sister Act” star is on deck to play the character Bird Woman, a villainous goddess, in the miniseries. She opened up to Variety earlier this month about how thrilled she is to be a part of the production.
“I have been a fan of this book for a very long time and when Neil Gaiman told me it was being brought to the screen, I did everything I could to be part of it to help make people aware of Anansi and all his magic,” she said.
“Anansi Boys” is based on the 2005 fantasy book of the same name by British writer Gaiman. Malachi Kirby, L. Scott Caldwell, Delroy Lindo and Jason Watkins also star in the project. No release date has been set.

“When I first conceived ‘Anansi Boys’ decades ago, I imagined Whoopi Goldberg as Bird Woman,” Gaiman revealed to the outlet.
“She mentioned that she had just finished listening to Sir Lenny Henry’s reading of ‘Anansi Boys’ and that it was one of her favorite books,” he continued. “Sometimes things feel planned and inevitable, and we are incredibly lucky. She’s going to be scary.”
