David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer-winning “Rabbit Hole” is about to hit the big screen. Typically, nobody from the Broadway version was retained, which is interesting considering that the author wrote the screenplay and director John Cameron Mitchell has bona fide NY theater cred — he co-created and starred in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Nicole Kidman now plays the part that earned Cynthia Nixon a Tony in 2006. Dianne Wiest has replaced Tyne Daly, Aaron Eckhart is in for John Slattery (yes, the silver fox from “Mad Men”) and Miles Teller is the new John Gallagher Jr.
Admittedly, I thought the play, showered as it was with awards and praise, was ridiculously overrated. And I wasn’t the only one: it was the object of a memorable blistering attack from Time Out New York’s David Cote, who lashed out not only at the show but at Manhattan Theatre Club’s very existence. Ah, that felt good!
Anyway, here’s the trailer, if you wish to revisit those bummer days.
