Usually the Public Theater waits until the last second to cancel a performance at the Delacorte. Who knows, that rain may go away and come back another day — preferably a month later, when the show’s run is over.

So it was a bit of a surprise to learn this morning that tonight’s first preview of “Into the Woods” was cancelled “due to weather delays.” At least people didn’t have to spend too much time on line — and we hear that some were waiting early this morning, a rare event for a first preview, when word hasn’t gone around yet. Give it out to Amy Adams and Donna Murphy: They’re as popular as a new iPhone.
