Overheard at a preview of “Hamilton”: A dazed-looking 20-something woman murmuring, “There are no words!” and then finding one — “Amazing!” Elsewhere, a middle-aged man extolled the virtues of Lin-Manuel Miranda: “He wrote the book, the music, the lyrics and he stars in it. Woody Allen doesn’t sing and dance!”

Who needs reviews? The people have spoken — and word of mouth, more than any critic’s thumbs up, has made “Hamilton” the hottest ticket on Broadway. (Celebrity-packed crowds haven’t hurt, either.)

That’s shocking for a show about a historical figure many people have hardly heard of — let alone for a musical heavy on hip-hop, not exactly the genre of choice for the baby boomers who buy most Broadway tickets. And rarer still for a show without a single big-name star.

For now, boldfacers — American presidents past and present, rappers, rock stars and sundry other celebrities — are filling those orchestra seats commanding up to $760 on the resale market. But get to the Richard Rodgers Theater two hours before showtime for the “Ham4Ham” ticket lottery, and you might just snag one for $10 — the bill with Hamilton’s face on it — along with a free song or dance from the cast members. Talk about free enterprise!

Here’s a cross section of stars who’ve checked out “Hamilton,” both off-Broadway and on. Clearly, the show has something for everyone.
